Position Overview
Rider University’s Department of Athletics seeks an Administrative Specialist, who with little or no direction and using a broad level of skills and knowledge, provides advanced administrative support to assigned staff members. Individual is required to: operate independently in prioritizing own workload and that of others in determining how best to accomplish work objectives; be proactive in identifying, following through and resolving various issues; participate in special projects as required; and may delegate work to others.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- assisting the Athletic Director in all aspects of departmental operations;
- answering phones and greeting students, parents, and the general public;
- running the ticket booth and working outside events as needed, primarily championships. This includes nights and weekends during the basketball and wrestling seasons (approx. 35 events per year); and
- arranging and managing all travel arrangements for the Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Directors.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required with 4-6 years of related work experience preferred.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents (coaches, students, parents, campus community, general public, alumni, donors, and media).
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment required.
- Computer proficiency required with an emphasis on MS Word documents, spreadsheets, and data management skills.
- Google Workspace for Education Suite of Products: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to operate independently, prioritize and organize own work schedule, multi-task, and meet established deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Ability to delegate work responsibly to others, monitor the work of others, and provide ongoing guidance, and leadership to others.
- The successful candidate for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Unique knowledge of Athletics
- Individual must be able to handle situations with high levels of sensitivity and confidentiality
- Knowledge of the Raisers Edge fundraising software program
